Small blog posting ASSIGNMENT

Image 1: Poster for Louis CK's 2013 HBO special Oh My God.

This poster makes great use of space and symmetry. The bulk of the space is taken up with a soft white fill. The bottom center of the image prominently display the title of the special, the date and the channel. The boldness of the font and the information is arranged in order of most to least important. The picture of Louis in the middle poses a good contrast to the rest of the space, helps point the attention to the title card and the middle while also establishing symmetry.

Image 2: Piet Mondriaan's Composition with big red space, yellow, black and blue (B130), 1921

Piet Mondriaan uses basic rectangular shapes, linear lines, basic colors and a lot of white to form a multicolored grid that might lack symmetry but is very abstract in its arrangement of shapes and colors.

Image 3: M.C. Esher's Sky and Water I, 1938

This piece by Esher displays great use of forced perception of positive and negative space, contrasts, and the gradual abstracting of animals into shapes, then morphing into different shapes and into a different animal.
